Adding an air conditioner, a pool heater, or an EV charger to a Bali property often reveals the same problem: the PLN connection isn't big enough. In this article I'll walk through how the upgrade process actually works in Bali — including the parts that rarely go smoothly.
The PLN upgrade process in Bali goes like this: you (or we) submit a request via the PLN app or PLN office, pay the upgrade fee (IDR 300,000–1,500,000 depending on the daya increase), and wait for a PLN technician to upgrade the meter and MCB. Wait times range from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the area and how busy PLN is.
Before PLN upgrades the meter, your internal electrical system needs to be ready to handle the new load. This means: the panel MCB must be rated at least as high as the new daya level, the main incoming cable must be adequately sized, and earthing must be in place. PLN's technician may refuse to upgrade if they see obvious safety issues on your side.
We assess what your property needs before you apply to PLN — so there are no surprises from the PLN technician on the day. PLN upgrade service details
